EXIT ONLY is an installation consisting of a series of paintings that, by manipulating a graphic form, redirect a natural, shapeless element (the sky, clouds, or a colour gradient in shades of grass). This graphic form is derived from the signs that indicate emergency exits inside buildings. The work reflects on the interiority of the exhibition space, activating the visual exit from the pictorial work, which, however, often refers back to a second pictorial work, in a deictic form, like a finger pointing which cannot do without the context to trigger the viewer’s attention. The installation is therefore a disordered visual path, a continuous cross-reference from one painting to another, which, to an oppositional mobility, a cardinal and cartesian orientation of the vision, contrasts the fluidity of the sky. Playing in this way between the diachrony of an indicated direction that leads nowhere, and the synchrony or stability of the representation of a changing, blurred environment that cannot be directed by a binary code.
